What is Karma?

Karma tracks your moral choices across all your playtime. Unlike reputation (which is faction-specific), karma is a global measure of your character's ethical alignment.

Karma Range

  • +1000 — Paragon. Hailed across the survivor community.
  • +500 — Honourable. Respected, trusted.
  • 0 — Neutral. The default.
  • −500 — Outlaw. Shunned by most enclaves.
  • −1000 — Infamous. Hunted, imprisoned on sight.

How You Gain Karma

  • Completing humanitarian quests
  • Saving NPCs in distress
  • Turning in found goods to vendors
  • Defending safe zones from hostile players
  • Curing sick NPCs
  • Donating to enclaves

How You Lose Karma

  • Killing friendly NPCs
  • Stealing from storage
  • Attacking other players in safe zones
  • Abandoning quest-givers mid-quest
  • Selling contraband to hostile factions
  • Breaking postal seals

Consequences

  • Negative karma locks you out of Shore Warden and Field Medic vendors
  • Below −500 triggers imprisonment: if you die within 500m of a safe zone, you respawn in the Prison Island instance
  • Above +500 grants you the "Guardian" title and a discount at most vendors
  • At +1000 or −1000, cosmetic effects mark your character to all other players

Redemption

Karma can be restored, but slowly. It takes approximately 20 hours of consistent good behaviour to move 500 points in either direction.
